French Polishing & Enameling
Client: Personal Project
Format: Screw-Post Bound Book
A personal project allowing the exploration of the fundamentals of Typography & Layout design, reproducing the first chapter of a book with the intention of improving the reading experience.
Lots of white space and easily locatable subtitles were used to improve ease of reading, with the golden section employed to create a more harmonious layout. The book shape was elongated and screw post bound to mimic the feeling of a block of wood, with yellow used as a reference to the colour of shellac used in the process of French polishing.
A supporting poster was produced using lino-printed shapes and type to give the feeling of hands-on, manual work.
